77th   International Motor  Show Geneva

The 77th  Geneva International Motor  Show

The 77th Geneva International Motor Show was held at Geneva Palexpo from March 8th to 18,2007. It was inaugurated on Thursday , March 8 at 10.00 a.m. by the President Of the Swiss Confederation , Mrs Micheline Calmy Rey , the President of the State council of the Republic and Canton of Geneva , Mr Charles Beer , and Mr Luc Argand , the President of the Motor Show , in the presence of many dignitaries from the worlds of politics , business and industry. The president of the Motor show said : “The Geneva Motor Show - your Show - the showcase of the automotive industry, is no longer the same. It has been changed for us! You will notice that it is no longer mainly the temple of power, performance at all costs, speed, or a form of gigantism, but a temple of new technologies, invented to take account of other constraints that are vital for the future of us all.

The sudden and salutary discovery of the fragility of our world thus found, on that occasion, the automobile to be a scapegoat and an easy victim.

Thank goodness that the sometimes-unreasonable dream of last century’s car, persists. Just as the Show’s success persists, year after year. But this fortunate change towards environmentally-compatible technologies is no longer an alibi. This evolution from politically correct has become socially compulsory, and then “fashionable" … and therefore eventually a probable source of profit for the industry, which is the condition for its survival.

Yet I know that many people - and perhaps some of you - think that the automobile, which has been at the heart of industrial development for one hundred years, is mainly to blame for the damage to the environment. To those people I say: open your eyes wide, in the halls here you will glimpse the future of the automobile, which is no longer a blueprint but reality; the revolution is under way! The car of the year 2015 or 2020 will be completely different from that of today. “

  Large international public

The great strengths of the Geneva Show have always been neutrality, representativeness and annuality. This explains the quantity and quality of the worldwide premieres that are presented each year by the greatest manufacturers in a country where no car is produced but only imported. The Swiss love luxury and this can be seen at the annual Auto show in Geneva or in  their chocolate, watches, skiing, clothes etc.. where they know how to make and show case the finest products in the world. The focus of this extravaganza  was luxury and functionality.Environmentally friendly vehicles  are now a part of world consciousness that they have become a functional requirement for success in the car industry.  The final report is positive on all counts: a media success, high attendance levels and widespread exhibitor satisfaction.

With 730'736 entries, the event organisers have achieved and even surpassed their objectives. The international nature of the event was confirmed, as much on the visitor side as on the exhibitors’, who came from over 100 countries worldwide.
